Representatives of the City Services Complex shared their tips on how to help pets in the heat.

Summer is hot not only for people, but also for pets. Representatives of the Municipal Economy Complex drew attention to this and published 10 recommendations for hot summer days for owners of dogs, cats, rodents and reptiles on their Telegram channel. We invite you to test yourself: how competently you take care of your pet.

To begin with, we repeat the 5 most useful, in our opinion, recommendations of officials:

  • Ventilate the rooms. Do not leave your pet in a stuffy room.

  • Do not leave your pet in a parked car.

  • Keep food fresh. In summer, it spoils faster. Give your pet more fresh water, wherever he is: at home, on a walk or on a trip.

  • Do not bathe cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters, even in hot weather.

  • Turn off heat lamps in reptile terrariums. Leave only ultraviolet lighting.

From the SharPei Online portal, we add 7 more tricks on how to take care of a pet in the heat.

  • If the temperature is above 30 degrees, walk the dog early in the morning. So protect your pet from heat stroke. At the same time we remind.

  • If the asphalt is too hot for your feet, then it is hot for your pet’s paws. Feel free to take off your shoes and test it out to check it out. If the asphalt is hot, but you still need to go outside with your pet, move on the grass or in the shade.

  • If your dog is hot, prepare ice cubes with a treat inside. The smaller the rock, the finer the ice is suitable. For the smallest dogs, only ice chips are suitable. What else is there, and what does not work – explains Boris Mats.

  • If you have a light-colored, short-haired dog, apply non-toxic dog sunscreen to the nose, ears, belly, and other areas of the body that are poorly protected by hair. Otherwise, the pet risks getting a sunburn.

  • If you have a flat-faced pet, take special care of it. This applies to owners of British and French bulldogs, pugs, Persian cats. Your breeds are at increased risk for heat stroke. The same applies to overweight pets. Don’t forget others.

  • If you have a guinea pig, rat, hamster, or rabbit, move all cages to a cool area and keep an eye on the amount of water in the drinker.

  • If you have a cat, she needs not only shade and coolness, but also special care, explained veterinarian Irina Buival.

That’s all. If you use these simple tricks, you will avoid the popular problems of a hot summer. And if something doesn’t go according to plan, contact your veterinarian. We wish you and your pet joy this summer!
